Art  1  Ages 9 - 11  Cindy Johnson
We will begin each class with a short study of art history using the Cornerstone curriculum and based upon Frances Schaeffer’s book, “How Shall We Then Live?”  We will study shifts in style from period to period to see art in the flow of history.  Students will quickly learn that the changes in art indicate changes in worldview.  After this, the class will be hands-on as we learn the basic elements of art: space, line, shape, texture, value, etc., and progress to color, learning more complex techniques.  We will begin with pencils and progress to ink, then watercolor pencils and wax-based pencils in the second semester.  Students will learn how to see, and how to draw what they see.  The majority of their work will be from looking at real objects, copying great works, and using their imaginations.  There will be weekly assignments and grading will be based upon completion of these.  Cost for supplies will be $50.00 per semester.  Students will occasionally be asked to bring easy-to-obtain supplies to class.  Homework:  1-2 hours per week.  Class cost: $45.00 per month, 1 1/2 hour class per week. Contact Cindy Johnson at crazymomma100[at]yahoo[dot]com or 281-419-7963.

Art  2   Ages 12 - 15   Taught at Cindy Johnson's home
Wednesday, 12:30PM until 2:00PM
This class will be offered in my home this year.  I live close to Gosling and
Woodlands Parkway.  Class begins with a study of art history using the Cornerstone curriculum, as stated above, but more in-depth.  Students will begin with pencil and proceed to India ink with pen and nib, then with brushes.  After this, students will work with dry pastels, proceed to pastel painting; and move to colored inks.  We will enjoy great paintings and sometimes copy them.  We will study the basic elements of art and continue on to color, balance, viewpoint, emphasis, and much more.  Students will learn to both draw what they see and use their imaginations.  There will be weekly assignments, and grading will be based upon completion of same, not upon artistic talent.  Cost for supplies will be $65.00 per semester.  Students will be asked to bring easy-to-obtain supplies such as paper towels, tape and glue from home.  Homework:  1-2 hours weekly.  Class cost:  $45.00 per month, 1 ½ hour class per week.  Contact Cindy Johnson at crazymomma100[at]yahoo[dot]com or 281-419-7963.

High School Art  Ages 15 - 18 Cindy Johnson
Class begins with a study of art history.  Study will be similar to that as stated in Art 1, but much more in-depth.  We will progress through time periods covering Christian, Byzantine, Pre-Renaissance, Renaissance, Reformation, Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, etc. all the way up to modern times.  We will continually discuss how to distinguish worthy art from bad art – not just fine arts, but books, movies, music, etc.  The majority of the class will be learning the elements of art and moving to composition, studies of depth, one- and two-point perspective, atmospheric perspective, proportion, etc.  With this as a base, we will progress to color.  During the year, we will use pencils, artists’ pens, vine and compressed charcoal, and watercolors.  Students will learn how to see, and how to draw what they see.  The majority of their work will be drawn directly from life; in addition they will copy great works, manipulate and use pictures and photos, and draw from their imaginations.  There will be weekly assignments, and grading will be based on completion of these.  Note: grading will NOT apply to a student's artistic ability, but that student's inclusion of all assignments in his weekly work.  Cost for supplies will be $65.00 per semester.  Students will be asked to bring easy-to-obtain supplies to class.  Homework:  1-4 hours/week. Two high school fine arts credits - one in fine art and one in art history.  Class cost: $45.00 per month, 1 1/2 hour class per week.  Contact Cindy Johnson at crazymomma100[at]yahoo[dot]com or 281-419-7963
