Texas History - Grades 7/8    Marilyn Mathis

World Geography  Grades 9-12  Lisa Sherman

This course will begin with an overview of the 5 themes of geography: location, physical and human characteristics of places, the relationship between the environment and humans, movement of people and products, and regions.  Time will be spent with the basics of map reading, terms, and types of maps.  Maps with some details and notebooks will be kept. This class will not go into detail for all countries but will do a close-up on chosen countries on each continent.  Students will participate in game/fun activities, such as games, pen pals (with parent permission), trucker buddies, storm tracking, tour guide brochures, and/or travel journals.  A specific atlas and map set will be needed for the course; you will be able to buy these from  Lisa.  Students will also need a 3- inch binder, map pencils, dividers with pockets and tabs, and black ink pens.  Internet access is required.  Class will be 1.5 hours.
